THE COFFEE HOUSE. : : The Coffee House on the court Louse square la AsheviUe, is under Lite ausp.c esofthe local branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. The cof fee house or lunch - room department of the W. C. T. U. has grown in . favor and is now recognized as a stronghold in temperance reform. It is" one of the practical - methods, for prevention of drunkenness; and its prime object is to offer an attractive reading ' and , lunch room, to those who might otherwise be tempted to visit the saroons. Hospitality and a welcome are extended however, to any who may find it convenient to fre quent these resorts; and in consequence, coffee houses are generally, 60 well pa tronized, as. to become sif supporting, after the first month although, money making is not tlie aim of the founders. .. . In response to their appeals give a ticket entitling the barer to a meal at the coffee house. - t . . . . . Besides the person in . charge, there is to be a daily succession of lady visitors (3 from each denomination in town) whose duty it will be to aid in every pos sible way , in making all frequenters feel at home.
